Mastering Information Consumption: How Curating the Right Input Shapes Your Perception and Future Success.

We are living in an information age where there is so much information that if we are not aware of what we are looking we could be lost and this could be disastrous.

The kind of information we consume either helps us to become the person we intend to become in the future or not. So, it’s critical to choose the right information so that we can create the right momentum for our future selves.

Every word we read, and every word we utter shapes the perception we have towards things and the world. We as humans don’t see the world as it is, but as we are. When we need to decide something we refer to our perception and it shapes every decision and choice we make in our life.

Two people could be in the same situation but act completely differently and could have a different attitudes towards the same situation. It is our perception that gives us our unique abilities to think and act differently.

Indeed perception is one of the higher faculties of the human mind and most people use it against them rather than to help them to achieve their goals and values.

If people are not aware of the information they consume, they just do that in their reactions to emotions. They are also shaping their desires and goals that way.

Let’s say you are consuming something popular that is going on in the world and you are consuming it. It affects the emotions you are going to feel, it affects your perception and thus controls your results.

We cannot expect to have great results if we are consuming low-quality information that has no use for our desired self. It’s the information we consume that shapes our perception and eventually its perception which shapes our actions and thus controls our results and reality.

A person with better perception makes better decisions and therefore has a better life than those who do not have better perception.

Most people consume information in the wrong way, they consume things that are extremely shallow and which have no use in the long term and it affects our system badly.

Therefore, the information we consume has a tremendous effect on our lives and we cannot afford to take it for granted, We need to have a filter for the information we consume.

There is one principle that I follow to consume better and more effective information that serves me and my future self.

  • Don’t consume when your mind is wandering that is you are not focused. To consume high-quality information we need focus and our undivided attention to comprehend it completely. It is easy to be distracted towards lowly things when we are in low energy and if we consume in that state it will create a negative momentum.

The much easier choice is to leave the consumption and engage yourself in simple tasks like household work, declutter or simply relaxing yourself in that time.

It is not about the consumption, it is about the intensity and it is not in total time you consume. It’s in the energy with which you engage.

Words do not have any power unless we connect ourselves to those words. It is about learning which includes thinking because learning without thinking will be in vain.

At last, If we do not know what information we need for the things we want to achieve. We tend to consume information that is not related to our future self and it shapes our beliefs and paradigms and hence controls our behaviour and results.
